Twists and turns are so important to me when reading books. Without them I get bored pretty quickly, which is why I infinitely hate spoilers. The funny thing is that for TV shows and movies, I sometimes even seek out spoilers instead. When it comes to books though, I like to try and figure out the twists. That’s half the fun of reading. Three books I particularly enjoyed for the ways they surprised me were Vicious by Victoria Schwab, Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez and The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr.
Project 52 – Feb Recap
Somehow doing a Project 52 makes the weeks pass be really quickly. A new theme marks the passing of yet another week and now February has already passed us by. I love the enthusiasm that overflows from the Bookish Scene participants and it’s always interesting to see how differently everyone comes to interpret that various themes. To round up another great month, I picked out my favourites and am sharing them here today.
Project 52 – Cover Love
The book cover of Blue Voyage by Diana Renn is so distinctive, I fell in love with it the moment I laid my eyes on it. There’s so much attention to detail and the motifs immediately made me think of Turkey. This shows what great design choices were made because Blue Voyage indeed is set there, further manifesting my cover love.
Project 52 – Forced to Read
When I thought about books I’ve been forced to read, naturally I was reminded of school. With so many reading lists and set texts I’ve worked myself through, there are many books that I was forced to read. The one that’s most stuck in my mind to this day is Flaubert’s Parrot by Julian Barnes. It was required reading for my tenth grade Literature class, and it’s possibly the only book I’ve ever read five times.
Project 52 – Heart
It’s Valentine’s Day this Sunday, so today’s theme kinda is an ode to that. Heart can mean a lot of different things though. While I think it’s important to enjoy the single life if that’s where you’re at, I also believe life is empty without love. That’s why I constantly seek out books that focus on friendship. The heart of a friend is an amazing gift and something to treasure always. And so, in the spirit of friendship, I’m currently reading Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard.
