If you were to go out and buy all the books that hit the shelves this week, you’d have about enough reading material to last you half a year. That is, provided the paperback and re-releases are new to you too and based on a reading target of ca. 100 books per year. In any case, this speaks a lot for YA books because seriously, how could you ever run out of exciting books to read?

Just looking at the weekly publications of YA I’m amazed at how the sheer amount of books keeps growing. Even paperback and re-releases alone already offer new titles to me that I’ve never heard of before. This reminds me of the the importance of cherishing backlist titles alongside new releases. Every week they compete with new titles, trying to stay relevant.

For the most part I’ve made sure to include print editions of books that are (traditionally) published each week. Ebook-only publications haven’t been on my radar so much. Though with the Bloomsbury Spark and Epic Reads Impulse imprints that only release ebooks, I might move towards including these as well. What do you think? Do ebook-only publications interest you at all?

Here’s to starting the new year with a bang! Lots of YA books are set to publish this week. There are quite a handful of paperback releases too, so if you’ve been holding out for them, the wait is over. Looking at all the explosion of new releases in January after the December dry spell, I don’t even know where to start. Which books have caught your eye amidst this sea of YA releases?
