Books We Meant to Read in 2021

January 22, 2022

Row of five books mentioned in the blog post. They are arranged in read, orange, yellow, purple and blue sequence, and propped up against the backsupport of a sofa. The photo has a text box overlay with the post title, "Book We Meant to Read in 2021, The Happy Place 5."Welcome back to The Happy Place 5! I fell off the bandwagon for a bit, but I’m back and determined to join in the 2022 topics more regularly. So, to kick of the (still somewhat) new year, we decided to round up the books we meant to red last year… but didn’t. For me, that’s a few hundred books — 400 to to be precise. These are the books I own and have yet to read. That’s why I thought about books I had planned on last year but woefully left on my TBR pile.

Fall Vibes on Book Covers

October 21, 2021

Top down view on coffee table with Australian paperback of edition of The Diviners by Libba Bray placed on the left bottom corner. A small wooden board is beside the top right corner of the book. A Nutella chocolate tart, dessert fork and cup of tea are on the wooden board. The photo has a text box overlay with the post title, "Fall Vibes on Book Covers, The Happy Place 5."This month’s topic of The Happy Place 5 is fall vibes. We decided to keep things open-ended to give ourselves a breather. I’ve technically taken an eight-month breather, and I’m barely surfacing again on the blogging front. Hah. But autumn is my favourite season. I love the hues of reds fading into yellows. Sadly, I live in the tropics. Instead of pretty colours, I contend with dreary monsoon thunderstorms. So, to cheer myself up, I turned to my bookshelves for my fall vibes picks.

A Series of New Beginnings

February 11, 2021

The Happy Place 5: New BeginningsThis month’s topic of The Happy Place 5 is new beginnings, particularly first book in series. We’re meant to share upcoming series were excited about but I’ve not been keeping up with new publications. Since I also own dozens of first books in series that I have yet to read, I decided to turn to my bookshelf. I picked out five series that I want to start this year, mostly based on how excited I was when I first acquired these books.

Books That Kept Us Afloat in 2020

January 6, 2021

The Happy Place 5: Books That Kept Us Afloat in 2020The Happy Place 5 is a monthly feature for which we pick five books according to a specific theme. This is the namesake of a Discord group that I am a part of with a bunch of book loving friends who live across the world. Our topic this month is books that kept us afloat in 2020.
