Retrospect #35: August 31st

Reading - My Best Friend Maybe by Caela Carter

In My Life

You know those weeks that pass you by and you’re not really sure what happened or where that week disappeared to? Yeah, I had one of this weeks. It happened, and now it’s gone. I know I had a friendly match, that I tutored, etc but somehow I think I was on auto-pilot for the most part.

I do remember finishing My Best Friend, Maybe by Caela Carter at something like four in the morning because I couldn’t put it down. It was worth it. I loved the book and wanted to re-read it immediately. Of course, I went to sleep.

Around the Blogosphere

Bloggers & Blogging
  • Mel @ The Daily Prophecy considers how diversifying content would affect her as a book blogger.
  • Shannelle @ The Art of Escapism thinks about the degree of informality she’s comfortable with on her blog as opposed to other social media outlets.
  • Rachel @ Parajunkee shares her stand on the legality of using animated GIFs (from TV shows/movies) on blogs.
Books
  • Hazel @ Stay Bookish does the math for expenditure on books.
  • Chiara @ Books for a Delicate Eternity makes her case to leave YA alone. She maintains YA should be left the way it is because removing sex, violence and swearing from YA books would make it sterile and devoid of teenagers’ experiences.
Covers
  • Miranda and Kayla voice their (opposing) opinions about keeping or removing dust jackets while reading. I’ve said it before, and will say it again, dust jackets are annoying. I prefer cover designs that are directly printed onto hardcover books.
Kindle Unlimited
  • Amy @ Aya M. Productions tried Kindle Unlimited and posted her review of it. As much as she likes the concept because there are no waiting lists, she’s rather disappointed with the available catalogue.
Social Media
  • Ames @ Literary Ames takes a second look at Leafmarks. She thinks it might just be a viable replacement for Goodreads if you’re looking for one.
Reading
  • Jamie @ The Perpetual Page-Turner shares some of the negative views or of reading that she has had to deal with.
  • Sana @ Artsy Musings of a Bibliophile weighs the struggles of being a reader. The comics she sourced are reason enough to check this out!

Quote of the Week

Then she’s gone and I’m back in bed because there are some days you need to start over or skip altogether.

—Colette Jacobs, T by Caela Carter

This pretty much sums up how I’ve been feeling lately (though I promise this is not why I loved the book!), thus letting days meld into each other in my mind. Perhaps this is why it takes so much effort for me to recall the events of the past week. No matter, August is over. May September be a better month.

What are you looking forward to this September?
There is so much information that I come across each day, I sometimes find it hard to process it all. This is why I decided to post a weekly recap post of what’s been going on here on my blog and with me in general, in the blogosphere and also about books as a whole. Retrospect has been inspired by none other than the lovely Asti @ Oh, the Books! when she used to do her weekly Bookish Recaps on her original blog, A Bookish Heart.

Honestly, both me and my coworker keep writing July dates on all the appointment cards we make for patients. I don’t know where the months have gone this year!

By the way, I love that picture <3 Makes me want to brew some coffee!

HAHAHA! My mind is till stuck on June. But I don’t have to write appointments for anyone, so at least I don’t have that problem ;)

That is tea, my dear ;) But yes, coffee is good too! And thank you :)
