Retrospect #38: September 21st

September 21, 2014

Half title page of Scandal by Sarah Ockler for #minimalistbooks

Half title to launch #minimalistbooks on Instagram

In My Life

The past week was exceedingly busy for me, so I didn’t have as much time to read as I would have liked. I’m back to training with my club twice a week now that we’re gearing up for our league to start in two to three months. As much as I like my free time, I do look forward to spending more time on court again.

Today I celebrated my birthday with my family over lunch. My sister surprised me with Fimo modelling clay because she remembered that I was looking for it two or three years ago. My mum decided I should set up a travel fund and gave me some money for it. Lunch buffet was my dad’s treat.

I met some friends for dinner, so while hanging around town to wait for them, I decided to look for a new pair of shoes. I now am a proud owner of a new pair of Vans, which means I could chuck my 1 year 7 month old pair. Hoho. Anyway, dinner was a lot of fun, as usual and I’m really thankful for this bunch of friends.

Instagram

With all the book tags going round on Instagram, Shannelle, Lillian and I can finally say we contributed too. We were talking book photography and lamented that it’s so difficult sometimes to find interesting backgrounds. After some too and fro, the idea for the #minimalistbooks tag surfaced.

If you want to join in grab a book, open to the half title or title page, find a simple background and snap away! As you can see from the photo I added above, I posted the half title of Scandal by Sarah Ockler.

Around the Blogosphere

I’ve bookmarked the posts I’m interested in in my RSS feed but I haven’t had the time to read any of them over the past week. I’ll make up for it next week and link up to two weeks worth of posts that I want to share.

How was your week? What did you read?
There is so much information that I come across each day, I sometimes find it hard to process it all. This is why I decided to post a weekly recap post of what’s been going on here on my blog and with me in general, in the blogosphere and also about books as a whole. Retrospect has been inspired by none other than the lovely Asti @ Oh, the Books! when she used to do her weekly Bookish Recaps on her original blog, A Bookish Heart.

Yay for getting back on court! I think it’s good you devote time to training and playing again, since it’s a hobby you love. It may suck that it interferes with some of your reading time, but reading will always be there!

And happy birthday again! Glad you had a good day. Can never complain about getting a new pair of shoes, and the travel fund is such a good idea! Do you have any plans for that modeling clay? I’d love to see what you do with it!

And yay for the new book tag! It’s something everyone should be able to do, so hopefully a lot of people participate :) I did my contribution this morning. Go me ;)

Back on court more ;) I’ve been training once a week over the past couple of months. Hoho. But you’re right. I’m itching for season to start but am grateful we still have time to prepare. And yeah, reading is something that can be done more easily than training, so I concede that floorball takes precedence :D

Thanks again for your well-wishes :D Yes! I was in desperate need of shoes. My old pair of Vans started to have a tiny tear on Sunday. Had I kept them, they’d have gotten bigger holes for sure. Wore them past their prime. Heh. Yeah, I like the travel fund idea. I just need to be disciplined and really not touch it for other purposes *whispers coughs ‘like books’ coughs* Hmmmm. I meant to me accent accessories but maybe I’ll make little figurines. I’ve yet to decide. I’ll keep you updated though ;)

Yay! I saw your post! Love it! The green scarf (?) looks so pretty and matches the signature very well.

I really want to read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender (phew, what a book title!) I’m loving the minimalist books tag – I may join up! I love taking pictures of books.

And by the way, happy happy birthday! :)

Haha. Yeah, that title is extremely long! I hope you like it when you get down to reading it. It was written very beautifully. Ooh, yes! Do join in the book tag if you’re inspired to :)

And thank you for the well-wishes, Rosie!
