My childhood favourite is Die Wilden Hühner by Cornelia Funke. I adored this book as a child and it’s the only book I re-read several times when I was younger. Most of the time I would read a book and be done with it. Re-reading books bored me — though not so with Die Wilden Hühner.
What also makes Die Wilden Hühner so special to me is that it’s one of the books that sparked my love for reading. It’s the first book I ever borrowed from a library. It’s also the first book I received as a present that wasn’t a picture book.
I loved this book so much that I looked forward to the releases of each new sequel. That was a big deal because I didn’t start tracking release dates of other books until I joined Goodreads in 2008. Obviously, no other book could even come close to dethroning my childhood favourite.
