I WANT TO GO HOME by Wesley Leon Aroozoo

November 27, 2018

Book cover & rating - I WANT TO GO HOME by Wesley Leon AroozooI Want to Go Home is a little different from most non-fiction books because the same material was used to produce a companion documentary with the same title. I’ve not watched the documentary but I did view the trailer. Based on the synopsis and the trailer, I expected the subject of I Want to Go Home to be Mr Takamatsu. As I read the book, however, I found this not to be the case.

THE GOOD IMMIGRANT edited by Nikesh Shukla

December 1, 2016

Book cover & rating - THE GOOD IMMIGRANT edited by Nikesh ShuklaInitially I meant to write a pure book review, assessing the merits of The Good Immigrant. Considering how much of my own existence is reflected in these essays, I felt compelled to go beyond that.

Review Anthology #1: Mental Illness

Review Anthology #1: Mental Illness — Girl, Interrupted | Finding Audrey | The Law of Loving Others | All the Bright PlacesAs I browsed through all the titles of books that I read last year, I realized that there were a lot of them that I didn’t share here on the blog (yet). Some of these were books that I thought were fairly important and I always meant to feature.

LO-FI PHOTO FUN by Adam Bronkhorst

Book cover of LO-FI PHOTO FUN by Adam BronkhorstFirst and foremost Lo-Fi Photo Fun is about getting creative with film photography. While Brinkhorst did state in the introduction that many techniques can be applied to digital photography as well, most of these results would have to be achieved in post-processing or through digital photo manipulation.

THE NEW STREET PHOTOGRAPHER’S MANIFESTO by Tanya Nagar

August 8, 2015

Book cover of THE NEW STREET PHOTOGRAPHERS MANIFESTO by Tanya NagarStreet photography is a photography genre I’ve been wanting to try but haven’t actually dared to. My main concern has been the law — who can I photograph where with or without their permission and which of these resultant photos am I allowed to publish? I didn’t expect The New Street Photographer’s Manifesto to answer these questions specifically. Nonetheless, there is a section that dispels general legal myths of street photography in the US and the UK. Tanya Nagar cautioned that it’s best to check the law according to your location. I’ll definitely be doing that.
