Hi, hello, welcome! If you’re a fellow Bout of Books participant, worried about the non-existent TBR pile, you’re not alone! I don’t have any, and am just about managing to read a chapter on the first day. On the upside, there are six more to go.
For those of you who don’t know, Bout of Books is a weeklong read-a-thon that takes place every other month. It’s a great time to focus more on reading and to connect with fellow bibliophiles via blogs, YouTube, Twitter and other social media.
Goals
As I already mentioned, I don’t have a fixed set of books I intend to read because I’ve not had easy access to most of them. My family’s in the midst of home renovations. That’s why my bookshelves were wrapped, and books were stacked and stowed away in unaffected nooks and crannies around the house. I only got to gather them today but haven’t had a chance to sort.
With that, I aim to finish reading A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers, which I already started last week. I also want to get to Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. I hope to read another one or two books that I own but I’m completely undecided on the titles. Maybe I’ll also listen to an audiobook in between.

Day 2, Jan 9
My goal for 2018 is pretty straightforward — read more books from those I already own. That means hauling books at a slower rate than I read. At nearly 400 books on the TBR pile, it’d take me 5 years to deplete it, even without hauling books because I borrow and listen to a lot of audiobooks as well.
In any case, last year, I became more conscious about only acquiring books I know I absolutely want to read. I also looked up more book reviews if I wasn’t 100% sure. If I wasn’t super excited by the reviews, I skipped buying the books. At most, I bookmarked them on Overdrive but who knows when I’ll get to those, if ever. Getting into those routines ensured that my TBR pile only increased 9 books by the end of 2017. This year, I want to be more stringent, so the numbers will go down.
Day 3, Jan 10
Didn’t get the chance to take a new photo, so here’s one I took in the past.

Day 7, Jan 14
This week I finished reading two books. I will post reviews on the blog but for now I posted my initial thoughts on Goodreads — first, A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers, and second, Goodbye, Perfect by Sara Barnard.
