Lately, I’ve noticed that I barely glance at blurbs anymore before deciding if I want to read a book. I mean, I do read synopses for the most part before adding a book to my TBR list but after that I forget.

Book reviews are very useful for various reasons. Reviewers get to share their love for books and can look back on their reviews in future if they want to remember what a particular book was about.

Last week there was this interesting opinion piece in the SundayReview of The New York Times, Scribbling in the Margins. The writer, Andrew D. Scrimgeour argued that readers writing in their books is the greatest tribute to authors.

Here is something that irks me: book cover quotes. They are superfluous and more often than not end up getting a rise out of me instead of selling me my next read.

When it comes to my bookshelf, I separate my books according to language and whether they’re fiction or non-fiction.
