Epic Recs May 2015: More Than This & This Song Will Save Your Life

Our May Recs

As late in the month as I’m posting this, Hazel and I do tend to send each other recs at the beginning of the month. If you’re following us both on Twitter, you’ll already know that I picked More Than This by Patrick Ness for her and she recommended This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales.

I’ve already finished reading This Song Will Save Your Life. I absolutely loved it! I was (figuratively) hugging Hazel and the book when I was done and didn’t want to let go. I’ll be posting my review soon to share all the love. Meanwhile, you can read my initial thoughts.

Thoughts on March Recs

In March I chose The Archived by Victoria Schwab for Hazel. She read a couple of pages but wasn’t really feeling it then, so she put it down again. I do agree with her that it’s a book you must be in the mood for to appreciate, so hopefully that mood will strike her sometime soon.

Hazel in turn told me to read Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins for me. While I couldn’t decide at first if it was meant to be a work of parody, it was funny and a quick read.

“Things were funny and ridiculously over the top with a rather witty character. The more I read though, the more I became inclined to believe that this wasn’t meant to be a work of parody — just a fantasy book in good jest. Bonus points for the down-to-earth nature of the characters and the presence of adults who actually enforced curfew.”

—Initial thoughts posted on Goodreads

Have you read either book or plan to read them too?

Epic Recs is a feature hosted by Amber at Books of Amber and Judith at Paper Riot. It’s an informal book club of sorts, where it’s all about the book pushing. And reading, of course. Pick a partner or request a partner through Amber and Judith to join in the fun.

I read This Song Will Save Your Life, the first few chapters that is, until I had no more time to continue >< But from what I've read, it is absolutely EXCELLENT. You guys have such epic picks for epic recs! :O I do hope you'll enjoy them! :D <3

Haven’t read any of the other three but I’m excited to hear what Hazel thinks of More Than This!

I’m soo glad you liked This Song! Have you listened to any of the songs in the list at the back of the book?
Rebel Belle sounds interesting. I’m very curious to pick it up now.

I’ve read and loved both of those books. :)

I hope Hazel gives The Archived another chance. It was slow going for me in the beginning, but once I got about halfway through I was HOOKED, and I loved The Unbound even more.
