Love-A-Thon Bookish Snapshots

February 23, 2015

Reading opens up the world

The fourth mini challenge of the Book Blogger Love-A-Thon hosted by Alexa has got to be my favourite of the lot! After all, it’s all about sharing the love for books through photography.

When it comes to reading, I must say what I most love about it is that books open up our minds to the world. Books don’t only teach us new things through facts and information but also have the potential to help us develop empathy. Since I have a never-ending thirst for knowledge and love losing myself in stories, my bookshelf is my pride and joy. Even though I share a 5 by 5 IKEA Expedit shelf with my sister, most of the books are mine.

My Bookshelf

Since my family just moved this week, I took the opportunity to rearrange our bookshelf. My sister let me take the top three rows for all my fiction books. The bottom two rows are for her books and some of my other books like language books, uni books, childhood books etc.

After double stacking a lot of the bottom books, I managed to leave two cubbies free to add more fiction books in future. Oh and I shifted some of my non-fiction books to a smaller bookshelf in my bedroom to make space for the rainbow.

Fairy lights

Fairy lights!

My favourite part about the set-up of our bookshelf are the fairy lights! They add so much cheer at night and the snowflakes add such a nice touch.

Falling in Love with Reading

Of course, my love for reading did have a beginning. I fell in love with books and reading when I was eight, thanks to Die Wilden Hühner by Cornelia Funke. In German that means “the wild hens” which makes the translated English title, The Summer Gang sound rather tame. In any case, here’s my snapshot of my favourite childhood book.

Oh wow your bookshelf and books are beautiful! I love how you arranged it by the color of the spines. I can never do that since I don’t like separating my series/trilogies.

As soon as I saw the title, I knew you’d have a great post because Josephine, you are the bookish photography MASTER.

And your bookshelf… oh my god YOUR BOOKSHELVES. Perfection.

Ugh–now I want to head over to IKEA or something to get myself a cubby shelving unit haha. Nothing like re-shelving after a recent move to relax and remember all the feels of the books you place into each cubbie!

Your shelves are so pretty! I’ve always loved the color coordinated bookshelves, but I’m pretty sure it would end up just irritating me because I’d have to split up series and such! Lol. But your pictures and shelves are gorgeous!
