Mise-en-scène #8: Art

March 13, 2015

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray for Mise-en-scene Art

When it comes to art there are a multitude of media. The one medium which most captured my heart since I was young is watercolours. I love the vibrancy yet softness that they often convey. They just scream prettiness to me, which never fails to enamour me. It’s no wonder then that the moment I laid my eyes on A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, I was swept off my feet.

I’ve yet to red the book itself though, so here’s to hoping the words will impress me as much as the cover art did. Reviews have been mixed, especially since some readers didn’t seem to like the alleged excessive romance compared to the world building.

Still, the idea of alternative universes is just as fascinating as art to me, so I’m excited to read this book soon.

Head on over to Georgie’s blog to see her photo. She posted a behind the scenes photo on Twitter and it looked promising! Also, if you’re participating in Mise-en-scène, remember to leave your link to your photo in the linky widget down below!

Mise-en-scène is a weekly feature/meme that Georgie and I created to challenge ourselves in (bookish) photography.

I have to admit, I’ve been eyeing A Thousand Pieces of You purely for that cover (and the cover of its sequel)! I actually just was looking at it a couple of days ago and ended up putting it on my maybe-list because it’s so beautiful. Sigh.

I love what you did with the photograph! It’s almost as if you painted the cover image yourself! :D

One of these times I’ll actually participate in this feature. I’m just so suck at keeping up with my photography. Only manage to do it in batches. (Of course, it would probably help if I didn’t limit myself to outdoor photography only. >.<)

Yeah, the cover is why the book caught my attention last year. I have yet to read it though. Heh. And yay! Glad you like my photo :) That was exactly what I was going for! Well, then. This means Georgie and I must add a few outdoor themes, so you’ll definitely join us! ;)

That’s a pretty photo. I’ve always preferred using oil pastels – not that I ever find the time to draw anymore. That’s the one thing I miss about school: art class.

Thank you, Chantelle! I’ve never tried oil pastels before. They seem so professional and intimidating to me. Heh. And ditto on missing art classes.

What a lovely photo! I’m obsessed with this cover + the colors, and I love that you matched them :)

Thank you, Alexa! I love the brilliance of the colours too.

OH MY GOD, I love the blue of those brushes, but more importantly, I love those little cakes of watercolor! What brand are they?

The brand is Pelikan. I took out the colour plates from my watercolour box. Haha. Most basic watercolour boxes from German manufacturers have removable/replaceable colour plates like that :)
