I will never forget my twelfth birthday. That year, my best friend gave me the most memorable gift: the gift of books. She hauled a huge tote bag with about 20 or so books to my family’s apartment. Then she declared that she had taken the books that were most dear to her and decided to loan them to me to read. We were only children after all, so we couldn’t afford to actually buy each other presents.
The amazing thing is that she was willing to part with her favourite books. Plus, that book stack pretty much made up a third of her collection!
Sadly, we no longer are best friends today. We attended different schools over the years and hardly had common friends. She was one grade above me, so keeping up proved to be difficult. In any case, I have fond memories of her and I’m glad that for the time that our lives overlapped, I had the pleasure of calling her my best friend.
Anyway, while I don’t remember the titles anymore, I do remember that selfless grand gesture from someone who truly was my best friend. For that, I will always be thankful.

What a beautiful story and what a nice gift from her. I love it when people put thought into a gift and sharing your favorite stories with someone else is the best thing you could possibly do :)

Aw, that’s such a sweet gift from your best friend, and one where she shared her love of books with you. :D I love those kinds of memories, sweet ones from a long time ago. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I remember my own childhood memories.
