Read-a-thon Wrap-up

October 16, 2014

Isla and the Happily Ever After & The Geography of You and Me

I AM BACK! Sort of. My plan was to start building up a log of posts to schedule this week but so far, I have zero posts. I’ve been so caught up with work, this is the first time in over two weeks that I’m typing a blog post. I must say, I missed blogging. At least stepping back allowed me to get some reading done.

Sadly, for a read-a-thon, I didn’t get to read as much as I had hoped. But I did read a lot more than I might have if I hadn’t been determined to use all my spare time to read. Plus, picking out two audiobooks helped me finish more books than I could have otherwise. In any case, here’s how my progress went over the two weeks from September 29 to October 12.

Do you include audiobooks when you join read-a-thons? Would you count them in your reading progress?

Six books in two weeks sounds like good progress. Yay for completing it!

I’ve never listened to an audiobook. I did try listening to the prologue and chapter sampler of Maggie Stiefvater’s Blue Lily, Lily Blue and it felt weird. I guess I can be into it if I read the book alongside listening to it.

Three books per week has pretty much been my average progress this year. Haha. But you’re right, it’s still good progress :)

Lol. Why weird? Alongside, as in alternating or simultaneously? I know listening and reading simultaneously would drive me crazy because reading is way faster than listening, so then the audiobook is more of a hindrance. But alternating works well for me. I read when I have time, then switch to audio when I need to do things that don’t require me to be intensely focused.

WOOHOOO! Congrats on the readathon!! :D

I totally think audio books are acceptable read-a-thon material because you’d still have to concentrate (sometimes even harder) to allow yourself to process all the information! It’s such a shame that I have a personal aversion to audiobooks (I can’t find a good narrator D;) I’m actually listening to one right now and am seriously considering DNF which is a shame because I never do so…

      Thank you, Jess! :D

I’ve not come across anyone who logged audiobooks as part of their read-a-thon, so it occurred to me fairly late that audiobooks are an option too. Heh. Ooh! Try The Night Circus if you haven’t already read it! The narrator was perfect!

I don’t use audio books but I don’t see why they wouldn’t count-they’re still books, just a different format :)

True that :) It’s just a format that needs to gain a wider audience.
