2018 is upon us and with the new year, I’m sure many of you made resolutions. For bibliophiles, this could mean reading a specific number of books, reading more diversely or exploring new genres. Beyond reading, some of you might want to pick up a new hobby or deepen your expertise in one. The Willoughby Book Club is a book subscription that can help you achieve those goals.
Tailored to Your Reading Tastes
What struck me about The Willoughby Book Club is that it’s personalised. Their literary experts hand-pick books specific to each subscriber. Not only that, it caters to a wide audience. From children’s books to young adult to contemporary books to classics. There’s also a bespoke book club subscription. This means nobody who subscribes would be in want of a good story.
For the Lifelong Learner
Besides fiction, The Willoughby Book club also offers subscriptions for non-fiction. If you’re into cooking or gardening, there are subscriptions especially for you. Whether you’re just starting out or want to expand your skills, you’re bound to discover new books. For the knowledge thirsty, the natural history book club might interest you.
Testing The Willoughby Book Club
I got to put their selection prowess to the test and I must say, I am exceedingly pleased. Basically, I filled out a form in which I detailed my favourite books, preferred genres and my Goodreads link. I included my LibraryThing link as well because that’s where I religiously catalogue my personal library.
Based on the information I provided, I received this beautiful edition of The Words in My Hand by Guinevere Glasfurd. The moment I laid my eyes on it, I had a feeling it was a great pick. When I read the blurb, I couldn’t stop smiling. It sounded amazing. It’s the kind of book I’ve often looked for but failed to find. My father already asked to borrow it once I’m done. So yes, many thanks to The Willoughby Book Club! I can’t wait to read this one soon.
As you can see, the focus is solely on the book. You can expect a couple of bookmarks and a badge but that’s about it. This makes their subscriptions quite affordable, even internationally, because parcels can be sent out via post.
Policy for Duplicate Books
Now, if you don’t keep such copious records, that’s alright. Should you receive a book you already own, The Willoughby Book Club will send a replacement at no extra cost to you. Alternatively, there’s a spoiler service you can opt into, so you can inform them ahead of time if you already own a title they chose for you.
10% Discount For Your Subscription
Personally, I had a great experience with The Willoughby Book Club. That’s why I’m happy to share that you can get 10% off when you click this link.

This sounds like a really good subscription service (and something that I could afford too!).

Agreed! Even with international shipping, I think the price is decent. Plus, they donate a book through Book Aid International for each “book a month” subscription their customers buy.
