This week’s theme had me completely stumped. Hopeless romantic? That’s not a phrase anyone would use to describe me. I was hard pressed to think of any books with romance as the central theme that I loved. There are many I’ve loved where romance was the subplot but when romance is the primary plot, that’s almost an automatic reduced star rating from me.
Mise-en-scène #20: Fear
Mise-en-scène #19: Field
Looking at an open field always makes me think of possibilities. The same goes for books that are very much open-ended. A prime example of this is Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. Even though I liked this book the least so far in The Raven Cycle, it made me want to seek answers. Plus, the nature-feel of the book simply fit well against the backdrop of this field right here.
Mise-en-scène #18: Music
Look at that! Finally an entire book stack with books that I have read. Not only that, they are some of my most favourite books! In fact, I rated all three books 5 stars and absolutely loved them. I think that’s because music holds a special place in my heart and I lose myself in books when music is a central theme.
Mise-en-scène #17: Eyes
Whenever I look at the cover of Slated by Teri Terry, I start to ponder, how do we see the world? How does the world see us? No two eyes see things the same, which’s why I like this cover. The juxtaposition of the girl’s gaze against the cityscape, makes me think about the place of individuals in society.
