Mise-en-scène #19: Field

June 5, 2015

Mise-en-scene Field, featuring Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie StiefvaterLooking at an open field always makes me think of possibilities. The same goes for books that are very much open-ended. A prime example of this is Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. Even though I liked this book the least so far in The Raven Cycle, it made me want to seek answers. Plus, the nature-feel of the book simply fit well against the backdrop of this field right here.

Mise-en-scène #18: Music

May 29, 2015

Mise-en-scene Music: Stack of music book recs with This Song Will Save Your Life, Virtuosity & The Lucy VariationsLook at that! Finally an entire book stack with books that I have read. Not only that, they are some of my most favourite books! In fact, I rated all three books 5 stars and absolutely loved them. I think that’s because music holds a special place in my heart and I lose myself in books when music is a central theme.

Mise-en-scène #17: Eyes

May 23, 2015

Mise-en-scene Eyes with Slated by Teri TerryWhenever I look at the cover of Slated by Teri Terry, I start to ponder, how do we see the world? How does the world see us? No two eyes see things the same, which’s why I like this cover. The juxtaposition of the girl’s gaze against the cityscape, makes me think about the place of individuals in society.

Mise-en-scène #15: Playlists

May 8, 2015

Mise-en-scene Playlists - On the Road by Jack KerouacMusic in my life is as random as books. Just like I don’t have a fixed reading plan to tackle my TBR pile, I don’t have fixed playlists to get me through the day. I tend to shuffle a random collection of songs or pick an album or artist if I’m in a particular mood. More often than not, that leads me right back to the Backstreet Boys.

Mise-en-scène #14: Old but Gold

May 1, 2015

Mise-en-scene Old but Gold with stack of classicsWhen I think of books and old but gold, three things come to mind: classics, childhood books and books that have been passed down to younger members in the family. Looking at my stack of unread classics, I thought I should show more appreciation for them.
