Hot off the Press – October 2, 2017

October 2, 2017

Hot off the Press — Stay up to date with weekly YA releases | wordrevel.comCan’t believe it’s October already! I feel like September only just started; probably because I spent most of last month packing and shifting stuff ahead of our home renovation, which means the days just melded into one another for me. With renovations ongoing the coming month, then moving and unpacking again, I’ll not have a lot of time to blog but I’ll check in when I can.

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren James

September 13, 2017

Book cover & rating - THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren JamesWhen I first read the synopsis of The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, I expected an epic romance set in space. That wasn’t quite what the book was but I did like the direction it took. What I didn’t realise at first was that The Loneliest Girl in the Universe isn’t only science fiction but a psychological thriller as well.

DEFY THE STARS by Claudia Gray

September 7, 2017

Book cover & rating - DEFY THE STARS by Claudia GrayFor better or for worse, the UK book cover of Defy the Stars isn’t befitting of the story. Romance isn’t central to the plot. The overarching theme was what constitutes humanity, which I thought was explored exceedingly well in this book. It was also about sacrifice to save others and the chase to live forever.

Bibliophiles Need Breaks Too

August 26, 2017

Bibliophiles Need Breaks Too — It's okay to slow down and take a break from readingLooking at the Goodreads reading challenges among my friends, many of us, including me, aim to read a hundred books a year. In order to reach that goal, we need to read an average of eight to nine books per month. That means reading at least an hour everyday, save for speed readers who manage to devour tomes in two hours. For the rest of us, reading that many books a year requires that we invest a fair bit of time.
