THE GOOD IMMIGRANT edited by Nikesh Shukla

December 1, 2016

Book cover & rating - THE GOOD IMMIGRANT edited by Nikesh ShuklaInitially I meant to write a pure book review, assessing the merits of The Good Immigrant. Considering how much of my own existence is reflected in these essays, I felt compelled to go beyond that.

Hot off the Press — Stay up to date with weekly YA releases | wordrevel.comYou know the year is almost over when the number of new releases keeps dwindling. This week The Fate of the Tearling by Erika Johansen should be a highly anticipated book for you if you love The Queen of the Tearling series. Other than that, I challenge you to pick up the oldest book you own but haven’t read. Which book is that for you? Let me know in the comments below!

THE RAVEN BOYS by Maggie Stiefvater

November 27, 2016

Book cover & rating - The Raven Boys by Maggie StiefvaterIt’s amazing how much perspectives can shift upon a re-read. When I first picked up The Raven Boys nearly two years ago, I listened to the audiobook. I loved Will Patton’s narration but had a few reservations about the book itself. Recently, I sat down with the hardcover edition, post-its and pencil in hand, determined to annotate as I revisited The Raven Boys. There were so many things I newly discovered, I grew to love it a whole lot more.

Hot off the Press – November 21, 2016

November 21, 2016

Hot off the Press — Stay up to date with weekly YA releases | wordrevel.comThis week is a little unusual. There were no paperback or re-releases that I could find. That leaves us with ten newly published books. Among those Scythe caught my attention for its intriguing premise. With no more disease left in their world, the only way to die is at the hands of a scythe. Even though I expect it to be fascinating, I’ve not decided yet if I’ll read it. I’ll probably look through more reviews to ascertain the levels of gore first.

THE GRACES by Laure Eve

November 20, 2016

Book cover & rating - The Graces by Laure EveInitially I gave The Graces 1.5 stars out of 5 on Goodreads. However, the more I thought about the book, the more it manifested itself as my least favourite one of the year. With that, my rating plummeted to below even a single star.
