Retrospect #101: December 6

December 6, 2015

St. Nicholas Day: Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, and The Christmas MysteryHappy St. Nicholas’ Day and a joyful second Sunday of Advent! Christmas is coming and at home we have unearthed our decorations. Sadly, we don’t have a suitable space for our big Christmas tree anymore, so very few of the ornaments will be hung on branches this year. I did get a small one for my bedroom though and my mum set up another small one in the living room. It’s kinda cozy this way.

THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE by Leila Sales

December 5, 2015

Book cover of This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila SalesThere’s so much that spoke to me when I read This Song Will Save Your Life. For this I loved it very, very dearly. It reminded me why I crave stories and why I can care so much about fictional people. Elise was my girl. She reminded me that I’m not alone and never have been. All that bullying I went through in high school, searching for acceptance, wanting to be someone — these aren’t alien experience to many of us. Despite that, resultant feelings of loneliness can be very overwhelming. This Song Will Save Your Life tapped into that psyche and spun a raw and engaging tale.

Mise-en-scène: Moon

December 4, 2015

Mise-en-scene: Moon – Photo of the moon and paperback Daughter of Smoke and BoneThe moon never fails to mesmerise me. The shimmering beauty at night borders so much on mysticism, I can’t look away. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor enamoured me in the same way. The words portray such beauty and the setting is so magical, I still dream about it sometimes.

Overview: October 2015

Word Revel Overview October 2015October was a whirlwind of a month and I have so much to be grateful for. I’m particularly glad that as a result of my decision to travel in Germany and Switzerland also led me to FBM. There was so much to see as I shared in my FBM post, Vol. 1 a couple of weeks ago. There were lots of programmes too, which I captured on camera. And of course, I also got to meet some great friends.

DRAMA by Raina Telgemeier

December 1, 2015

Book cover of DRAMA by Raina TelgemeierSome of you might recall that I blogged about Drama being under review at my local library. It was in their online catalogue but listed as “under review” for over half a year. I had placed a reservation for it and trouped down to the library to collect it after I received an allocation notification. The librarian told me that there was a system error. She couldn’t tell me either when this title would be available again. When I could get my hands on Drama at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, I pounced on it. It’s only natural to want what you otherwise can’t have, aye?
