Book Cover Culture #8: Ruby Red

January 15, 2015

German and US book covers of Rubinrot or Ruby Red by Kerstin GierRuby Red is a book I that I listened to in German because I wanted to try out the audiobook function in the Onleihe app using my iPhone. The thing with Onleihe is that audiobooks can only be downloaded on Windows because the files are WMA.

Book Cover Culture #7: Cinder

November 29, 2014

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1) - Wie Monde so silbern (Die Luna-Chroniken #1) - Marissa MeyerThe first time I saw the US cover of Cinder, I was instantly drawn to it. The red heel is so striking, it immediately draws in the eye. Add on the X-ray view of the leg, which reveals mechanical parts rather than bones and it is bound to attract attention.

Book Cover Culture #6: Wildlife

September 18, 2014

Wildlife - Wilder Sommer - Fiona WoodOriginally published in Australia last lear June, Wildlife hit the international arena this year — April in Germany and the past week in the USA. The German title, Wilder Sommer doesn’t deviate too much from the English titles. Translated it means “wild summer” which is pretty clear, in my opinion.

Book Cover Culture #5: The Archived

September 13, 2014

BCC #5 - The Archived - Das Mädchen, das Geschichten fängt - Victoria SchwabI’m constantly surprised when I come across translated books with covers that are so vastly different from one another, you’d hardly think they’re of the same book. It particularly baffles me when the covers imply very different genres. That’s what happened with The Archived by Victoria Schwab.

Book Cover Culture #4: Every Day

September 4, 2014

BCC #4 - Every Day - Letztendlich sind wir dem Universum egal - David LevithanIt’s about time I took a look at a book I’ve already read. As I scanned through my recent books on Goodreads, Every Day by David Levithan caught my eye. For one, David Levithan’s books have been translated into many languages and for another, I liked Every Day a lot. The prose was wonderful and the concepts were extremely thought-provoking.
