January Topic
Welcome back to The Happy Place 5! I fell off the bandwagon for a bit, but I’m back and determined to join in the 2022 topics more regularly. So, to kick of the (still somewhat) new year, we decided to round up the books we meant to red last year… but didn’t. For me, that’s a few hundred books — 400 to to be precise. These are the books I own and have yet to read. That’s why I thought about books I had planned on last year but woefully left on my TBR pile.
While this blog post is all about books we meant to read in 2021, truthfully, these are also books I meant to read in 2020. Ok, books I want to read in 2019 too. The past two years, 80% of the books were audiobooks which I borrowed via Overdrive. This means I left a lot of books waiting for me on my bookshelves. This year I’m determined to actually get to them.
5 Book Picks
Without further ado, the books I meant to read in 2021 are:
- Lair of Dreams (The Diviners #2) by Libba Bray
- The Queen of Nothing (Folk of the Air #3) by Holly Black
- Uprooted by Naomi Novik
- The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
- A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by V. E. Schwab
Considering these five books, I noticed a bit of a theme. They are all fantasy books. I was beyond excited when I acquired each of these books. Three of these are from series I’d actually been enjoying. These are curious realisations for me. Collecting books and reading books clearly are two hobbies we like to pretend are one. I think for the coming year, I’m going to focus more on reading rather than collecting, starting with those 2,500 pages right here.
The Happy Place 5 is a monthly feature for which we pick five books according to a specific theme. This is the namesake of a Discord group that I am a part of with a bunch of book loving friends who live across the world.

Definitely finish The Diviners series and also queen of nothing, I’ve got to read the latter too, I’ve read book 1 and 2 I might do a binge read of the whole trilogy as I don’t recall much of book 1 and 2.
