Mise-en-scène #8: Art

March 13, 2015

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray for Mise-en-scene ArtWhen it comes to art there are a multitude of media. The one medium which most captured my heart since I was young is watercolours. I love the vibrancy yet softness that they often convey. They just scream prettiness to me, which never fails to enamour me. It’s no wonder then that the moment I laid my eyes on A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, I was swept off my feet.

Mise-en-scène #7: Reflections

March 6, 2015

Reflections on The Bell JarWhen we first picked reflections as one of our themes, I was thinking more along the lines of mirrors or still waters. Since I’m still in the midst of settling down in my new home though, it slipped my mind to obtain a mirror for this photo challenge. Bathroom mirrors hardly ever produce flattering results, so I didn’t get to play with literal reflections this week.

Mise-en-scène #6: Eating Disorder Awareness

February 27, 2015

Paperweight by Meg Haston for Eating Disorder Awareness WeekIn light of Eating Disorder Awareness Week, this week’s theme focuses on eating disorders. I have to admit that I’ve not read all that many books on that matter, so I took it upon myself to look for YA books that revolve around the issue. One upcoming release that struck my attention was Paperweight by Meg Haston.

Mise-en-scène #5: Ethnicity

Red packets for Chinese New Year with Mambo in ChinatownIn light of Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year) this week, I decided to feature a book with a Chinese protagonist. While I’ve not read Mambo in Chinatown by Jean Kwok yet, the synopsis sounds very fitting for this week’s theme.

Mise-en-scène #4: Best Friends

February 13, 2015

Friends Forever paperweightI will never forget my 13th birthday. That year, my best friend gave me the most memorable gift: the gift of books. She hauled a huge tote bag with about 20 or so books to my family’s apartment. Then she declared that she had taken the books that were most dear to her and decided to loan them to me to read. We were only children after all, so we couldn’t afford to actually buy each other presents.
