Mise-en-scène: Rainbow

November 7, 2015

Mise-en-scene: Rainbow - Rainbow colour booksThere’s nothing like pops of colour to brighten the day. Rainbow arrangements of books especially add visual cheer. As dark winter days and the rainy monsoon season take over, why not invite your own rainbow into your homes? Be it through decorations or rainbow bookshelf arrangements. I know bright colours help lift my mood when the sun doesn’t shine so much and the skies are constantly overcast.

Mise-en-scène: Darkness

October 31, 2015

Mise-en-scene: Darkness - LumberjanesDarkness in conjunction with Halloween might call more for horror but that’s not necessarily my cup of tea. I do however enjoy twisted tales with a touch of humour. When I do read macabre stories, they have to be spun with intelligence and not feed so much off blood and gore. That being said, I liked Lumberjanes for its darkness and monsters coupled with hilarity. That, my friends, is the graphic novel I read this week in the spirit of Halloween.

Mise-en-scène: Mental Health

October 9, 2015

Mise-en-scene: Mental Health - All the Bright PlacesFor this week’s Mise-en-scène we commemorate World Mental Health Day ahead of tomorrow. Georgie and I felt so strongly about the importance of raising awareness, we fixed this one theme months ago, before we had even decided how to fill the preceding weeks.

Mise-en-scène: Tears

October 2, 2015

Mise-en-scène: Tears - Books stack of The Raven CycleInitially The Raven King was set to release on September 29 but then the publication date was postponed to next year. Knowing that I didn’t get to hold the conclusion to The Raven Cycle this week after all made me sad. It stands to reason that even though I’ve yet to read The Raven King, I immediately associated it with this week’s theme of tears.
