Interview with Chantel Guertin + Win 3 Books

November 19, 2015

Series of The Rule of Thirds by Chantel GuertinPhotography is one of my passions. That’s why I constantly seek books that feature photography. I can’t get enough of them, so I was really excited when I learnt about the Pippa Greene series. The Rule of Thirds was a delightful book, which I reviewed a while back. Then the opportunity arose to interview the author, Chantel Guertin, so let’s welcome her here on Word Revel today!

Reading in Public

November 18, 2015

Man reading in publicDuring my stay in Geneva a couple of weeks ago, I noticed something. There were more people reading in public than I ever see in Singapore. While waiting for buses and trams, more than a handful of people were reading at the stops. As I strolled through the weekend bric-à-brac at Plainpalais, I saw a few people basking in the sun with their books. This one man stood out to me as he sat beside the loud and active skatepark. He in contrast was the picture of serenity as he read and drank his coffee.

Frankfurt Book Fair 2015: Rows of booksLast month I found myself at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 (FBM) in Germany. It wasn’t something I had planned months in advance. In fact, it hadn’t even crossed my mind to attend until my father suggested it. I was having lunch with my parents and as all conversations go, one topic led to another until my dad asked when the FBM would be held. Turned out, it was a mere three weeks away. Thankfully the window for press tickets wasn’t closed yet, so I turned my day upside down trying to pull everything together.

20 Library Hacks (for Singapore)

November 10, 2015

Library hacksWho can imagine life without public libraries? I certainly can’t. I’ve been an ardent library patron since the day my sister received her first library card. Even after obtaining my own library card when I was 11, I continued to rely on my sister’s card because I would frequently max out mine. I jumped on ebooks as soon as I could. The availability of digital loans made me yearn for an e-reader even more than I already did in the year before. I took the plunge and bought my Kindle in 2013.

Packing Books to Travel

October 1, 2015

Books I packed for travelDeciding what to pack on travels often ends in debates on what must come along and what can stay home. Paying for excess baggage usually isn’t worth the extra cost. For bibliophiles, it’s all the tougher because books are some of the densest objects in our suitcases. After struggling through this predicament for the second time this year, I decided to share my process.
