What’s the Point of Abridged Audiobooks?

Listening to an audiobookWhen it comes to reading, I don’t discriminate against any format. I read printed books, ebooks and audiobooks. In fact, I have great appreciation for audiobooks. Where my love falls short though is abridged audiobooks. What’s the point of them?! I ask myself every time I stumble across them.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo on a Window LedgeShadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo has been on my TBR pile since last year but I put off reading it for the vainest reason: I wanted to own a matching set of the trilogy. The edition I had chosen was the UK paperbacks published by Orion Books. That purple cover of Shadow and Bone completely won me over! Trouble is, this particular edition of Ruin and Rising (the third book) will only be released June 4, 2015.

Reading RSS FeedsThere are a lot of blogs that I read regularly. In order to stay on top of them, I’ve come to embrace RSS feeds. Years ago I used to simply bookmark the URLs and visit all the blogs one by one. With the burgeoning blogs I read though, that’s a very time-consuming undertaking, so I very much prefer to read via RSS feed readers.

Achieved colour balance for Kindle with bock cover on what floral bedsheetsWhen it comes to photographing ebook readers, smartphones and tablets, rendering colours correctly can be somewhat tricky. The screen of my Kindle Paperwhite often has a much stronger blue tint than my eyes perceive. My iPhone screen tends to look a lot more pink in photos than it should.

Open book on lap for reading on the goOne habit that I picked up when I was still in third grade was to carry a book with me wherever I went. Even when my mother scolded that my bags were too heavy, I was undeterred. Case in point, I still carry a book with me no matter where I go.
