I updated my reading spreadsheet and crunched the numbers, which means my July reading stats are out! July picked up a little over June.
Books Read
Statistics
Amount Read
Altogether I finished reading 9 books altogether. I read 1694 pages and listened 37 hours and 19 minutes. If I convert the listening hours to pages, then I would’ve read a grand total of 3117 pages.
The books I read had an average of 339 pages and the audiobooks I listened to were on average 9 hours and 19 minutes long. This means the books on average were slightly shorter than in June while the audiobooks were on hour longer on average.
I read 54% more in July than I did in June. That’s good news to me since that means I somewhat pulled out of my reading slump. The next step is to finish reading all these books that started months ago but still didn’t finish until now.
Formats
Format-wise, I read 5 paperbacks, which is no surprise since 4 of these were books I own. Besides that, I listened to 4 audiobooks.
Targets and Genres
I read 1 non-fiction book, 2 adult fiction book and 6 YA fiction books. Got down to reading 1 classic, 1 historical fiction, 2 science fiction, 2 fantasy, 2 contemporary. The non-fiction book was on photography.
Sources
The sources of these books were varied, as usual:
- Bought 3 from Book Depository
- Bought 1 from Aamazon
- Borrowed 1 from the library
- Borrowed 1 through Onleihe
- Borrowed 3 through Overdrive
Reading my own bookshelf still doesn’t make up the majority but it’s progress, so that’s good.

Reading Challenges
Goodreads
Tally: 68/100
With 68 books read by the end of July, I was 10 books ahead of my Goodreads reading challenge. That’s an extra book ahead of June, which means I basically kept normal pace.
Non-Fiction
Tally: 5/20
Over the past couple of weeks I borrowed a whole bunch of non-fiction books on photography and candy making, so I expect progress soon.
Adult Fiction
Tally: 12/12
So, this one’s completed. Yay! Something to make up for my dismal non-fiction & German books progress. I could up the goal but somehow I don’t feel the need to. There are more adult fiction books on my TBR pile, so I don’t think I’d need another target to remind me to read more.
Classics
Tally: 3/6
German Books
Tally: 3/12
Popsugar Reading Challenge
Tally: 32/50

Yay, I’m glad you got your reading mojo back! Also, I really liked the stats! I just love how many books you bought. I’m never the one to go on a book buying ban and seeing the number of books bought in a single month (mine or someone else’s) actually calms me. Ha ha.
I really need to start reading a non-fiction already because it’s likely to take me weeks to finish one. Sigh.
I definitely slumped during June and only managed to finish two books. But thankfully, I read seven books in July and now August is nearing its end and again, I’ve finished only two books. However, unlike June, I’ve read several volumes of comics I was meaning to so that’s something. I do think I can finish at least two books before the month’s over so that should also help.

Wow 9 books! That’s awesome!! I loved Vicious! Definitely adding some of those books you got to my to-read list!

Your weaves bind together and the hair turns into snakes. Like Medusa, but not. Then the books stare and they turn into stone; a hipster stoner kind of stoned, but not. Other times it crumbles into dust and your ears vacuum the granular words scarred by the on-fire dreadlocks (but not) snakes and you consume its life. A beast reading month for MedusaRevel herself…

I imagine weaves to be mighty uncomfortable, especially in the 30+ºC heat and the 80% average humidity over here. Lol. Like I said already, Medusa creeps me out, although the extra heads for reading wouldn’t be such a tragic thing to have. Hahaha.

Which German books have you read this year? I really need to pick one up again before I forget even more!
Joséphine Simone says
I read a non-fiction book on floorball, Saphirblau by Kerstin Gier & Mind the Gap! Wie ich London packte by Emmy Abrahamson which was translated from Swedish into German.
Maraia says
Oh, I’ve read Saphirblau. Unfortunately, my library only has the English language audiobooks. I’m not sure I would have read them as physical books, but I enjoyed listening to the series. I haven’t heard of the others you mention. My personal favorite German book is Die Mitte der Welt. Have you heard of it?

I don’t know what it was about June, but I was slumpy too! July happened to be the month that I beat that…and I conquered my Goodreads goal! My number was low this year, 35, because I wanted room for human error and DNFs and life (last year I finished book 40 on New Year’s Eve!), and now I’m at 45. I love your stats (and your site in general!). Keep up the awesome work.
Joséphine Simone says
Thank you, Michal! :) Maybe we slumped because we reached the half-year point? I remember in 2012 I read 30 books and when I managed that half-way through 2013, I was very surprised at myself. I think it helps to use pockets of waiting time here and there. They do add up to a fair bit of hours every months.
