Since I last played with snow ten years ago when I spent Christmas in Germany, books are the closest that I’m able to get to the icy depths of winter. This also means that my thermos bottle carries chilled water more often than hot beverages.
INSURGENT (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth
After re-reading Divergent, I knew that chances were I wouldn’t like Insurgent anywhere near as much as I did back in August 2013. What I didn’t expect was to walk away feeling oh so cold. There were so many things about Insurgent that made me want to chuck it. As early as the 96th page, I feared I would mark this re-read a DNF. The book had already annoyed me a lot within those pages alone.

Hot off the Press – Jan 4, 2016
Here’s to starting the new year with a bang! Lots of YA books are set to publish this week. There are quite a handful of paperback releases too, so if you’ve been holding out for them, the wait is over. Looking at all the explosion of new releases in January after the December dry spell, I don’t even know where to start. Which books have caught your eye amidst this sea of YA releases?
Retrospect #105: January 3
Long weekends are always great to relax and hang out with friends, which is exactly what I did to usher in the new year. We had dinner around town, after which we just checked out the happenings around the Singapore River. Every night this month there’re free open air performances organised by the Esplanade, so we listened in on one of the local bands.
