First Bout of Books Participation

Bout of Books 15 TBR Pile

Jan 5, 2016 update: I set up a separate post to track my reading progress and challenges.

Joining Bout of Books 15

After watching Bout of Books pass me by so many times over the past two years, I have finally decided to join! I figured it’d help me build up my momentum as the new year starts. There are so many books on my shelves that I have yet to read. I want to gobble them up and fly through but sometimes I lack motivation or get distracted. Since read-a-thons help me focus, Bout of Books it is.

TBR Pile

Books I Own

In the lead-up to Jan 4, I’ve picked out books for my Bout of Books TBR pile. When I tweeted, asking for advice, someone mentioned that shorter books are the way to go. That’s what I tried to do — besides The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, which I’m buddy reading with Christina. We’re pacing ourselves at hundred pages per week, so if it gets too heavy, I can set it aside whenever I want to.

Besides The Knife of Never Letting Go, I also picked another six shorter books from the ones I own: When I Was Me by Jenn Hilary Freeman, Night Owls
Bennett, Counting Stars by Keris Stainton, Cloud 9 by Alex Campbell, After Summer by Nick Earls, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

Library Books as Back-up

When I’m not in the mood to read a particular book though, I sometimes just don’t read until I feel like returning. To avoid that, I’m giving myself a little more choice and am adding a couple of library books and ebooks to the pile: The Summer of Chasing Summer by Sarah Ockler, Down from the Mountain by Elizabeth Fixmer, and Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol, and Boy, Oh Boy! by Laura Dower (MG re-read).

Are you participating in Bout of Books this time round? What do you plan to read?

I love the Bout of Books readathon. It’s the third time I’m participating and I’m really excited. I don’t really know what I’m going to read yet but I still have time to figure that out.

I hope you have a lot of fun and get a lot of reading done!

I’m debating about whether I’ll be participating this time around, but I ADORE Bout of Books! It’s always such a fun experience, and I definitely feel like I’m encouraged to read more :)

I should do a challenge like this because I have so many books that I need to read! My book pile is starting to pile up!! I would love to read a Patrnick Ness book in 2016 because I’ve heard a lot of good things!

I adored More Than This and The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness — heartily recommend those. And there’s still time to sign up for Bout of Books ;) You can even do so via Twitter or Instagram rater than your blog if you’d rather keep it low pressure.
