Quarter Century Constant

September 21, 2015

Giant chocolate chip cookie and booksIn the grand scheme of things, 25 is just a number, even if applied to age. Yet we ascribe such significance to age, which make birthdays significant (non-)events. This year my closest friends and my family too celebrated with me ahead of this day, so no, I didn’t wake up feeling any different. Though yes, I did wake up with the stark realisation that I now am a quarter century old.

Retrospect #90: September 20

Mood Reading with Trouble is a Friend of Mine and Glory O'Brien's History of the FutureI probably finish 98% of the books I start reading, even if it takes me a year. Yet I’m not a stickler for finishing a book before starting the next. In fact, I’m usually in the midst of several books. Once in a while I even find myself alternating between books in one seating. At the very least, I almost always give myself options when I want to read. Such is the life of a mood reader.

Same Voice — A Problem with Audiobook Narration

September 15, 2015

Different audiobooks narrated by Julia Whelan, giving protagonists the same voicesOver the past year I’ve come to listen to an average of four audiobooks per month. This year alone about a third of the books I’ve read were audiobooks. The more I listen, the more narrators I come across as well. I’ve reached a point where I can recognize a lot of the voices I’ve heard narrating. Once in a while, I notice the same voices. That’s where my problems begin.

Retrospect #89: September 13

This week's book haul stackAfter weeks of talking about it, Elaine, Tory and I finally met up. We had coffee and traded a couple of our books. I happily got rid of my copy of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Can’t wait to hear what the two of them think of the book when they get down to reading it.

Bookstagram Safety

September 8, 2015

Bookstagram Safety with Book PhotographyJoining bookstagram can be such a rewarding experience. You meet fellow book lovers, can share all your book photography in abundance and discover lots of new books. Amidst all the excitement, there is one thing I’ve found is often overlooked: bookstagram safety. Its so important to remember that bookstagram is a sub-community on Instagram. Since Instagram is a social networking site, the rules of staying safe on the Internet apply as well.
