Project 52 – New Beginnings

April 8, 2016

Bookish Scene: New Beginnings – Creative photography, hanging onto a tower of books

New Beginnings made me think of first books in series. They introduce us to new worlds and start us out on a new journey. I figured out pull out some first books in series from my shelf when I realized that my stack kept growing. These are books I’ve kept waiting on my bookshelves for various reasons:

  • I prefer to binge read series, so I usually wait for the sequels.
  • Series require years of commitment, so I’ve a tendency to postpone them.
  • If only the first book is out, I will forget details of what happened by the time I have the sequel.

With that these new beginnings grew and grew and grew into a massive tower. Of course I look forward to discovering all these worlds but I’m also feeling a little overwhelmed by how much I have yet to read. In the mean time, I’m just going to have to hang in there.

Do series overwhelm you too?

I LOVE this picture! It’s very well edited and so so creative. I don’t see many edits on bookstagram, to be honest so when I do, it makes me very happy. And yes, first books are like that memory where I go, “imagine if I hadn’t started the series…” AND like now, in the present, i am a hardcore fan. i don’t know if any of that made sense XD

Yes, I get very frightened by series! I’ve gotten to the point where I would rather just binge the series, but now we have authors complaining that if we do that, then the rest of the series might not be published due to bad sales. I feel a bit worn out by the series push lately. I find that I reach for the one offs more that a series, unless I know the author’s work very well!

Okay, you are honestly THE COOLEST. Some series overwhelm me, especially the ones that are super hyped up and the majority of the books already came out (I’m looking at you, The Raven Cycle). Although I feel the pressure to read them, I probably still well since, you know, peer-pressure. If I don’t, I feel left out! However, I know that I’ll get to it in time. On the other hand, there are just so many popular series that are out, in the making, or about to be published and that’s overwhelming, too. Even if it is only a duology /:

We are quite similar in the way we like to read series’! I love to binge read them so I do tend to wait until I have all the books otherwise I’ll be itching and twitching for the next book and that’s not a good feeling.
    I love the picture, too!

This is such a great picture! Series don’t really overwhelm me, but that stack of series to be started DOES. oO You have a lot of good books ahead of you. :D
