Sarah J. Maas is currently on her Asia tour, which saw her spend a few days in Singapore. International authors, particularly bestselling ones, rarely visit our shores, so Elaine and I decided to check out the session on Friday, March 11.
Project 52 – Shards
I Love I Hate I Miss My Sister by Amélie Sarn broke me to pieces. For days I tried to piece those shards of my heart together again because the basis in reality of this book haunted me. While I knew about cases of Muslim extremists killing defectors in the most cruel ways imaginable, I was horrified by how Djelila died.
BLUESCREEN by Dan Wells
Bluescreen was a fast-paced mystery rooted in science fiction. Set in the near future, the setting felt immediate yet very much more advanced. A lot of the communication technology and technology as a whole reflected current imaginations of what could be possible in a couple of decades. I thought Bluescreen tapped on that technological knowledge very well and injected some creativity as well.
Retrospect #114: March 6
Driving lessons are going well and I passed my final theory test last week! This means once I clear my subjects and complete my extra auto transmission lesson, I’ll be able to book my driving test. If all goes well and there’s no sudden influx of test takers, I expect my driving test to be in two months. Other than that, I’m looking forward to Sarah J. Maas’s book signing this Friday. It’s very rare that international authors visit, so I’m sure that’s gonna be interesting to witness.
Hot off the Press – Mar 7, 2016
For some reason I used to think The Serpent King is a fantasy book, then I learnt it’s actually contemporary fiction. Surprise! The title got me for that one. Had I scrutinised the cover sooner, I probably wouldn’t have had that mistaken belief. In any case, this week I’m most looking forward to Map of Fates.
