Quantified Reading

July 16, 2015

Quantified Reading Book StackParticipating in the Trees of Reverie read-a-thon for the first time made me think about quantified reading. Why bother trying to reach a numeric reading goal? What’s the point of trying to read a hundred books for the Goodreads Reading Challenge? Shouldn’t the quality matter over quantity?

A BEAUTIFUL MESS PHOTO IDEA BOOK by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman

July 15, 2015

Book Cover of A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea Book by Elsie Laeson and Emma ChapmanInitially the connection between this photo idea book and the blog, A Beautiful Mess didn’t cross my mind when I borrowed this book. Only at home when I took another look at the cover did I realize that the lovely bloggers Elsie and Emma wrote A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea Book. While I’m not such a regular reader of their blog, I adore the bright colours and photos whenever I do peruse their posts.

Trees of Reverie Read-a-thon, July 2015

Trees of Revery Read-a-thon July 2015 TBR pileAltogether I selected six books, two of which I already started but want to finish during this period. I may detract from this TBR pile to turn to audiobooks, should I continue to struggle with written words.

Mise-en-scène #24: Comfort

July 10, 2015

Mise-en-scene Comfort: Book and tea in bedComfort is reading in bed with a constant supply of tea. I love curling up after a long day at work, shutting out the world to read. If my eyes are too weary, I plug in audiobooks. On the rare weekend that I’m not occupied with my sporting pursuits or any other obligations (ie. overtime work or tutoring), I love immersing myself in fictional worlds without interruption. That’s what comfort is to me: downtime spent reading.

Overview: June 2015

July 7, 2015

Word Revel Overview June 2015June saw a slow-down in reading for me. I only completed 6 books, which is way below the number I’ve been averaging over the past year. I attribute this to work and general lethargy. I’ve also been training more regularly as the 2015/16 leagues are approaching for me. In some ways, I saw this coming even at the beginning of the year. That’s why I set my reading goal at 85. Since that still put me 18 books ahead at the half-year mark, I increased it to 100.
