One concept which I’ve seen floating around but not believed in is reading slumps. I still think it’s an odd concept, given that it’s not like we need to read to sustain ourselves. Yet I must admit that I’ve been in a funk where books are concerned. I want to read but my mind has been rebelling at the sight of printed words on bound pages. To overcome that I’ve turned more to audiobooks.
Mise-en-scène #23: Celebrations
With 4th of July in full swing, the US is celebrating Independence Day. Since the the only American I know of in my family was my great-great-great-grandfather (so I’m only 1/32 of American descent), this day has never been of much significance to me. What I do relate to are celebrations — Christmas, birthdays, New Year’s Eve, when I was younger St. Martin’s Day and Fastnacht (German for Carnival; equivalent to Mardi Gras) and now Lunar New Year and Eid al-Fitr, even if my family didn’t adopt these customs.
Customer Service at Book Depository
As much as I prefer ordering books online for the price and convenience, the waiting time does bother me. It’s been taking longer and longer for shipments to be dispatched, which doesn’t coincide with the estimated delivery times listed on Book Depository. I find this rather problematic when it comes to pre-orders that I want to read before all the spoilers emerge. Though for the most part the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
