A GATHERING OF SHADOWS by V.E. Schwab

May 31, 2017

Book cover & rating - A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

A Gathering of Shadows is much more intense than A Darker Shade of Magic. Schwab has a way of putting words to a page that is incomparable to other authors. The wit that underpins her snarky characters is first class, and Lila is a prime example. What makes it so great is that Lila doesn’t try hard — it’s who she is. A Gathering of Shadows increased my love for her, Kell, and Rhy manifolds, and also sucked me right into the spheres of Alucard and Tieren.

THE RULE OF THIRDS (Pippa Greene #1) by Chantel Guertin

September 9, 2015

Book cover of THE RULE OF THIRDS (Pippa Greene #1) by Chantel GuertinLet’s start with the best part of The Rule of Thirds: photography is front and centre! Pippa Greene loves photography. She lives and breathes it, is in the school photography club and is gearing up to take part in a photography competition. As someone who loves photography, I’m always sad at the lack of it in the books I’ve read. A lot has been written about music and art but photography has mostly been missing. Well, here we have a good book in The Rule of Thirds.

THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern

December 18, 2014

THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin MorgensternLet’s get the cliché part of this book review out of the way first: The Night Circus was absolutely enchanting! It was magical and beautifully written. This audiobooks was a treat for the senses, especially because Jim Dale narrated it and he sounds like the perfect traditional storyteller.

BEING SLOANE JACOBS by Lauren Morrill

May 17, 2014

BEING SLOANE JACOBS by Lauren MorrillI don’t think any book that is so steeped in sports can get any more charming than Being Sloane Jacobs! After I closed that book,I was just sitting there with a silly grin on my face. No kidding. I wanted to hug the book to sleep. It was that adorable. And yet I totally got into the sports parts. They were realistic, they were intense, and all the dynamics between team mates and competitors were so on point, I recognised a lot of the situations both Sloane Emily and Sloane Devon found themselves in.

CATCHING JORDAN by Miranda Kenneally

March 31, 2014

CATCHING JORDAN (Hundread Oaks #1) by Miranda KenneallyCatching Jordan was one of those books I had more fun looking forward to than actually reading. For one, books about sports often get me very excited. For another, the protagonist is a girl on a guys’ team! How can this not turn out to be a great book? Simple: when the sports action itself is lacking in the book.
