KING OF SCARS by Leigh Bardugo

July 19, 2019

Book cover & 3-star rating for KING OF SCARS by Leigh BardugoAs much as I enjoyed the Six of Crows duology, I have no love lost for the original Grisha trilogy. Nonetheless, Nikolai still managed to win me over for his charm and wit. That’s why I was excited when Leigh Bardugo announced a spin-off duology dedicated to him.

CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi Adeyemi

March 13, 2018

Book cover & rating - CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi AdeyemiThis book, this book, this book!!! Children of Blood and Bone was such a treat to read. Right from the start, the stakes are high. With each chapter, they get even higher. Whenever I thought the plot would plateau, I was wrong.

SEVEN WAYS WE LIE by Riley Redgate

March 30, 2016

Book cover & rating - SEVEN WAYS WE LIE by Riley RedgateSeven Ways We Lie was very ambitious. With seven main characters a lot could go wrong: unresolved plot lines, not enough depth, loss of focus and characters that might be too similar. I’m glad to say that Seven Ways We Lie didn’t suffer from any of these shortcomings. In fact, the choice to integrate so many characters’ perspectives worked!

BEING SLOANE JACOBS by Lauren Morrill

May 17, 2014

BEING SLOANE JACOBS by Lauren MorrillI don’t think any book that is so steeped in sports can get any more charming than Being Sloane Jacobs! After I closed that book,I was just sitting there with a silly grin on my face. No kidding. I wanted to hug the book to sleep. It was that adorable. And yet I totally got into the sports parts. They were realistic, they were intense, and all the dynamics between team mates and competitors were so on point, I recognised a lot of the situations both Sloane Emily and Sloane Devon found themselves in.

THE THING ABOUT THE TRUTH by Lauren Barnholdt

February 22, 2014

The Thing About the Truth is one of those books that swing back and forth between the present and the past. Had I read it as an absurd text, I might have had greater appreciation for it but I doubt that was anywhere near Barnholdt’s intention. Stuck in the present, we glimpse Kelsey and Isaac…
