Why I’m Joining
Last weekend I was lamenting the reading funk I’ve been stuck in. Then I saw Sarah’s tweet about the next Trees of Reverie read-a-thon:
I’ve never participated before, mostly because these read-a-thons always took place when I was too busy to join. This week I finally do have the time, so I decided to hop onto the reading bandwagon. Maybe being more intentional about reading will help me overcome this inexplicable funk.
About Trees of Reverie Read-a-thon
Basically, the Trees of Reverie read-a-thon goes from 12 a.m., July 11 to 11.59 p.m., July 19 starts. This means everything I read from now till Sunday night counts towards it. For more details, visit the sign-up page. For the first challenge, visit the Day One post, where participants can link up as well.
TBR Pile
Altogether I selected six books, two of which I already started but want to finish during this period. I may detract from this TBR pile to turn to audiobooks, should I continue to struggle with written words.
The books I’ve already started are Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor and Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. I’m not entirely sure why it’s taking me so long to get through Days of Blood and Starlight. Perhaps it’s the writing style — despite it’s beauty, it’s been cumbersome to absorb. I think I need to block of time to concentrate on nothing but this book. I started Saint Anything today on the way to work and already finished a third of it. It has such an underlying ominous feel to it, I must keep going.
Besides the two books I’ve already started, there are four books on my read-a-thon TBR pile: Vicious by V.E. Schwab, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller and Immaculate by Katelyn Detweiler. I chose them because they’re standalone and for variety in genre: fantasy, modern classic, historical fiction and contemporary fiction. That way I won’t feel like I’m reading the same things, plus they’re books I’ve especially been eyeing over the past weeks.
Progress
To avoid spamming everyone’s email inboxes and RSS feeds, I’ll be updating my reading progress within this post right here. If you’d like to know how I’m doing, feel free to check back on the blog. Updates will follow around 11.59 p.m., AEST. If I get round to taking photos, I will also update on Instagram.

Ohh, GOOD LUCK. I’ve never done a readathon either. >_> I thinK I’m an antisocial hermit reader sometimes, hehe. But I hope you like Vicious! I absolutely whipped through that one because there are so. many. questions. And agreed about Laini Taylor’s writing. I mean, it’s definitely beautiful…but when I finished that trilogy, I realised I enjoyed it more in retrospect than the actual reading. If that makes sense. >_<

Wow so many readathons this month! I’m doing the #Cramathon and it just started yesterday :) Good luck and I hope you enjoy all your reads! I heard amazing things about Days of Blood and Starlight, but I’m not so sure if it’s my cup of tea.

Thank you, Katherine! :) And I agree about participating in bookish events — they’re always a great way to meet new people in the community.
