Bookstagram 101: The Equipment

January 20, 2016

Bookstagram 101: The Equipment — Choosing your camera, accessories and propsInstagram is primarily an app-based platform. Even though they do have a website, new users can only sign up via the app. Uploading photos is only possible via the native app. This means that you must have access to a smartphone (or tablet that can run smartphone apps) and install the official Instagram app. It’s available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 onwards.

Hot off the Press – Jan 18, 2016

January 18, 2016

Hot off the Press — Stay up to date with weekly YA releases | wordrevel.comJust looking at the weekly publications of YA I’m amazed at how the sheer amount of books keeps growing. Even paperback and re-releases alone already offer new titles to me that I’ve never heard of before. This reminds me of the the importance of cherishing backlist titles alongside new releases. Every week they compete with new titles, trying to stay relevant.

Retrospect #107: January 17

January 17, 2016

Restrospec #107 (Jan 17, 2016): Of book hauling, TBR Jar & around the blogosphereI made a renewed attempt at a TBR (to be read) jar. You can see it in the photo above. Let me tell you, it was a feat stuffing all those folded sheets of paper into the jar. Jumbling them up is a futile exercise. Looks like I need to make a TBR box instead because I’ve only added the fiction titles I own. I still want to add the non-fiction titles and library ebooks I’ve bookmarked. They’re available 24/7, so totally made for TBR jars, unlike physical library books which would require me to actually make a trip to the library to borrow a title I pull from the jar. Not ideal TBR jar material.

Re-reading Books I Loved Before

January 16, 2016

Re-reading Books I Loved BeforeIt was a sad realisation to come to that I no longer like Insurgent. I read it for the very first time in August 2013. Then I picked it up for a re-read in November 2015. The book is the same as it was before. The story hasn’t changed. The words haven’t changed. I’m the same person but I’m the paradox that changed. Consequently, my perception of things has shifted.

Bookstagram 101: Introduction

January 12, 2016

Bookstagram 101: Introduction — Discover the bookish Instagram community | wordrevel.comOver the past few months I noticed the increasing frequency of the search term bookstagram leading to my blog. In fact, my all-time second most visited blog post is Is Bookstagram Losing its Shine? — Overcoming Bookstagram Problems. Only my guide to managing TBR piles has had more hits, mostly because that post is almost a year older. Another post I wrote that ranks very high is Bookstagram Safety.
