The Value of Read vs. Unread Books

March 22, 2018

The Value of Read vs Unread Books — Valuing books against the anti-library, tsundoku and minimalismA few years ago, I came across one of Sana’s Goodreads shelves that she had named anti-library. While the term still unsettles me as much today as it did back then, the idea behind it is a poignant one. You see, the anti-library contains books the owner hasn’t read, a point of greater importance to Umberto Eco. For many a reader, this is also known as the TBR (to be read) pile. Interestingly, several bloggers find that the TBR pile has become a source of stress, and some feel liberated without one.

THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF OKAY by Laura Steven

March 20, 2018

Book cover & rating - THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF OKAY by Laura StevenIzzy was such a refreshing and hilarious character. Her personality shone through the blog posts and her annotations on hindsight. Once in a while, the details she shared bordered on TMI (too much information) but in a diary sort of blog that’s not exactly unusual. If you like no holds barred narrations that flow with stream of consciousness, you’ll be in stitches laughing over The Exact Opposite of Okay.

February 2018 Overview

March 17, 2018

February 2018 OverviewFebruary was a little out of the ordinary for me. I only listened to one audiobook out of the 12 books that I finished. This also means I read more pages in print and ebook last month, getting though 3,937 pages. That’s more in January, even though I got through three more titles then. As for audiobooks, I listened to 5:37 hours (equalling 216 pages). The total equivalent was 4,153 pages. My average rating for these books was good too at 3.718 out of 5.

THE POET X by Elizabeth Acevedo

March 16, 2018

Book cover & rating - The Poet X by Elizabeth AcevedoUsually, when I find out a book is a novel in verse, I will skip it. The Poet X, however, sounded so relatable, that I stepped out of my reading comfort zone. Let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it!

CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi Adeyemi

March 13, 2018

Book cover & rating - CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi AdeyemiThis book, this book, this book!!! Children of Blood and Bone was such a treat to read. Right from the start, the stakes are high. With each chapter, they get even higher. Whenever I thought the plot would plateau, I was wrong.
