Review Anthology #1: Mental Illness

January 2, 2016

Review Anthology #1: Mental Illness — Girl, Interrupted | Finding Audrey | The Law of Loving Others | All the Bright PlacesAs I browsed through all the titles of books that I read last year, I realized that there were a lot of them that I didn’t share here on the blog (yet). Some of these were books that I thought were fairly important and I always meant to feature.

First Bout of Books Participation

December 30, 2015

Bout of Books 15 TBR PileAfter watching Bout of Books pass me by so many times over the past two years, I have finally decided to join! I figured it’d help me build up my momentum as the new year starts. There are so many books on my shelves that I have yet to read. I want to gobble them up and fly through but sometimes I lack motivation or get distracted. Since read-a-thons help me focus, Bout of Books it is.

Comparing Different Books by Same Author

December 26, 2015

Same Author, Different Books — The Vow and Virtuosity by Jessica MertinezAuthorship has a way of affecting readers. Even if all we know is the author’s name and nothing more, the name matters.

Take one of my favourite authors, Jessica Martinez. I adored her first three contemporary books. They were stylistically straight to to the point and I liked her approach to characters and setting. Then she brought out a mystery novel. I absolutely want to read it but only because she wrote it. The synopsis alone wasn’t entirely convincing to me. In any case, I bought the Kindle edition of Kiss Kill Vanish and am curious if I’ll like it just as much as her other books.

First #TBTBSanta

December 26, 2015

#TBTBSanta 2015 gifts receivedThis was the first time that I joined the Broke & Bookish Secret Santa gift exchange. During the previous two years I just observed this annual event from afar (read, Twitter). Then when Jamie tweeted this year just before sign ups closed that there were 30 minutes left, I hastily plunged into it. I’m very glad I did because I discovered two amazing people as a result.
