Interview with Chantel Guertin + Win 3 Books

November 19, 2015

Series of The Rule of Thirds by Chantel GuertinPhotography is one of my passions. That’s why I constantly seek books that feature photography. I can’t get enough of them, so I was really excited when I learnt about the Pippa Greene series. The Rule of Thirds was a delightful book, which I reviewed a while back. Then the opportunity arose to interview the author, Chantel Guertin, so let’s welcome her here on Word Revel today!

Reading in Public

November 18, 2015

Man reading in publicDuring my stay in Geneva a couple of weeks ago, I noticed something. There were more people reading in public than I ever see in Singapore. While waiting for buses and trams, more than a handful of people were reading at the stops. As I strolled through the weekend bric-à-brac at Plainpalais, I saw a few people basking in the sun with their books. This one man stood out to me as he sat beside the loud and active skatepark. He in contrast was the picture of serenity as he read and drank his coffee.

FALLING INTO PLACE by Amy Zhang

November 14, 2015

Audiobook cover of FALLING INTO PLACE by Amy ZhangWhen I first finished reading Falling into Place, I didn’t know how to rate it. It spoke to me in the most painful manner. No other book in recent memory has made me cry so much. When I wasn’t crying, I was on the verge of tears. The rest of the time I was uncomfortable. Liz wasn’t a nice person and yet I felt a connection because a lot of her thoughts had been mine before.

Mise-en-scène: Movie Tie-in

November 13, 2015

Movie tie-in cover of If I Stay by Gayle FormanMovie-tie in covers aren’t exactly my thing. I’m far from a movie buff. This year I’ve probably been to the cinema only once; twice at most. Yes, I did watch Insurgent and Paper Towns but only because no other movies caught my interest on my long haul flight back home from Europe. Needless to say, I don’t own any books with movie tie-in covers. The closes to it is my copy of Divergent which has an ugly sticker on it announcing the movie. Those stickers are exceedingly annoying and spoil good cover designs.
