Book Cover Culture #5: The Archived

September 13, 2014

BCC #5 - The Archived - Das Mädchen, das Geschichten fängt - Victoria SchwabI’m constantly surprised when I come across translated books with covers that are so vastly different from one another, you’d hardly think they’re of the same book. It particularly baffles me when the covers imply very different genres. That’s what happened with The Archived by Victoria Schwab.

Breaking Down Book Photography

September 12, 2014

Engaging in book photography“Why are you taking photos of your books?” Certainly, I’m not the only one who’s had to answer this question. As long as you blog about books, are a bookstagrammer or post book photography on Tumblr, someone is bound to have asked you this as well.

LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Stephanie Perkins

September 11, 2014

LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR (Anna and the French Kiss #2) by Stephanie PerkinsWhat do you make of a book that everyone has already loved to shreds? How do you pick up those pieces and see what others saw before you? Hype has a way of bringing awareness to certain books. At the same time, it can negatively impact one’s enjoyment. Without the hype I wouldn’t have loved Lola and the Boy Next Door. With the hype, I came to feel indifferent.

Retrospect #36: September 7th

September 7, 2014

Retrospect #36 - Colour coordinated bookshelfAs you can see in the above photos, I rearranged some of my books. I share an IKEA Expedit 5-by-5 bookcase (that IKEA sadly discontinued earlier this year). Since I own way more books than my sister does, she has 10 pigeon holes while I have 15. A good number of those are used for school books, music scores, old children’s books, board games etc. I love how there’s enough space to double-stack books, such that I can tuck away books I won’t be reading in the foreseeable future.

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US by Kasie West

September 6, 2014

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US by Kasie WestIt happened! I like a book precisely because of the romance. Of course there’re other factors involved but The Distance Between Us swept me off my feet. It was sweet, good light-hearted fun reading this book. I found so many reasons to laugh from the beginning right through to the end, which I loved. I like books that make me laugh. They’re such stress-relievers and wonderful distractions.
