ASSASSIN’S HEART by Sarah Ahiers

February 10, 2016

Book cover & rating - Assassin's Heart by Sara AhiersAssassin’s Heart wasn’t a book that I had prioritised to read. The reason I got to it so soon after publication was that I had the maximum 6 credits on my Audible account. In order not to forfeit any credits, I had to spend one before the new cycle. Since Assassin’s Heart was the only book available as an audiobook from my TBR (to be read) pile among the titles I didn’t own, I went for it. Essentially, I went in without any set expectations.

INSURGENT (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

January 6, 2016

Book cover & rating: Insurgent by Veronica RothAfter re-reading Divergent, I knew that chances were I wouldn’t like Insurgent anywhere near as much as I did back in August 2013. What I didn’t expect was to walk away feeling oh so cold. There were so many things about Insurgent that made me want to chuck it. As early as the 96th page, I feared I would mark this re-read a DNF. The book had already annoyed me a lot within those pages alone.

THE CHRISTMAS MYSTERY by Jostein Gaarder

December 24, 2015

Book cover & rating - The Christmas Mystery by Jostein GaarderIt’s Christmas Eve and so the Advent season is practically over. The same goes for The Christmas Mystery. While I’ve owned it for about ten years (probably more), I’ve never actually read it. This year I finally picked it up and used it as an Advent calendar. I must say, I’m glad I did. While I forgot my chocolates half-way through last year, there’s no way I could forget a book.

WINTER by Marissa Meyer

December 19, 2015

Book cover & rating - Winter by Marissa MeyerWinter’s release was postponed by many months, leading to lots of sadness all around. As consolation, we received Fairest (#3.5) earlier this year to ease the waiting. Now the question is, was it worth waiting so long for Winter? I say, definitely! For one, it takes a lot of time to write 824 pages. It also takes a very long time to edit these pages to perfection.

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J. Maas

September 10, 2015

Book cover & rating - A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J MaasThinking about A Court of Thorns and Roses evokes a whole range of emotions in me — all negative. Of the books I’ve read this year, only The Miniaturist received a lower rating from me. After accounting for all my variables (prose, characterisation, plot, depth, originality, impact & voice), my final rating is a measly 0.857 out of 5. Rounded up that means 1 star.
