Fangirl was funny and sweet and wonderful. What I liked best was the college setting without an intense focus on romance. This book was about Cath who tried to find herself, even though she felt she was losing everything. She so desperately tried to hold on to familiarity through her high school boyfriend, her father and most importantly to her, her twin sister Wren. For the first time, she had to be truly independent. I believe that for many, college is the time to find oneself and Rowell presented this transition very well in Fangirl.
A BLIND SPOT FOR BOYS by Justina Chen
This books is hands down my favourite book of 2014! I can say this with conviction to the highest degree because this is my last book review of the year. And I can already tell the two books I am currently reading will not trump A Blind Spot for Boys.
GET HAPPY by Mary Amato
Get Happy is such a sweet book with the right amount of conflict and tension. I liked Minerva right from the start. She was kinda bratty at first but a very self-aware brat fluent in sarcasm, so reading this book amused me tremendously.
THE GEOGRAPHY OF YOU AND ME by Jennifer E. Smith
When I finished reading The Geography of You and Me, I wasn’t terribly impacted but I could appreciate the good parts of the book. The thing about life is that a lot of experiences are so outrageous, we’d be in utter disbelief were we to read about them in a book.
LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Stephanie Perkins
What do you make of a book that everyone has already loved to shreds? How do you pick up those pieces and see what others saw before you? Hype has a way of bringing awareness to certain books. At the same time, it can negatively impact one’s enjoyment. Without the hype I wouldn’t have loved Lola and the Boy Next Door. With the hype, I came to feel indifferent.
