RAW BLUE by Kirsty Eagar

April 8, 2014

Raw Blue is one of those books with a very apt title. It indeed is a raw book. It’s a book about finding yourself, dealing with or avoiding the past (whichever way you see it) and coming to terms with family differences. There’re a lot of reasons for Carly to be down but she has…

VIRTUOSITY by Jessica Martinez

January 25, 2014

Book cover of VIRTUOSITY by Jessica MartinezI can’t remember the last time I loved a book that made me so so angry! Virtuosity did it for me. I must say I experienced a roller coaster ride of emotions. There were moments I felt happy and mesmerised and others where I felt sad and furious. Martinez writes beautifully and knows how to surprise her readers, which I already said about her second book, The Space Between Us. They are moving stories with beautiful prose and lots of surprises.

HOW I LOST YOU by Janet Gurtler

October 22, 2013

For sports lovers, I’d say this is a good book. While the synopsis doesn’t mention it, Grace and Kya are really into paintball. They play competitively and aim to be part the Grinders, an all-women’s college team, when they leave high school. Grace’s father owns a paintball place, so the two of them and their…

RIPTIDE by Lindsey Scheibe

October 15, 2013

When I picked up this book, I expected a light summer read about surfing. It turned out to be much more than that. For better or for worse, it turned out to be an issues book. Grace has a lot of trouble with her parents at home, and family to her doesn’t quite mean safety…
