Mise-en-scène: Autumn

September 25, 2015

Mise-en-scene: AutumnAutumn has always been favourite season, mostly for the colours. While I love the vibrant streaks of reds and yellows, it’s also the woodsiness of the season that I adore. Sadly, autumn doesn’t visit this part of the world that I live in. Instead we battle with monsoon seasons and El Niño. On the upside, the temperatures don’t fluctuate as much, so summer clothes are appropriate all year round.

Quarter Century Constant

September 21, 2015

Giant chocolate chip cookie and booksIn the grand scheme of things, 25 is just a number, even if applied to age. Yet we ascribe such significance to age, which make birthdays significant (non-)events. This year my closest friends and my family too celebrated with me ahead of this day, so no, I didn’t wake up feeling any different. Though yes, I did wake up with the stark realisation that I now am a quarter century old.

Retrospect #90: September 20

Mood Reading with Trouble is a Friend of Mine and Glory O'Brien's History of the FutureI probably finish 98% of the books I start reading, even if it takes me a year. SECONDS by Bryan Lee O’Malley

Book cover by SECONDS by Bryan Lee O'MalleyLife choices, second chances and changing the past are major themes in Seconds. That’s why I think it’s a graphic novel that appeals to a wide audience, even if the medium isn’t something one usually reads. It’s natural to wish things had gone differently, lamenting that everything could’ve turned out better, dwelling on the perpetual if only…

Mise-en-scène: Genre

September 18, 2015

Genre – Stack of YA Fantasy BooksFantasy is a genre that I’m fairly new to. For most of my life I almost exclusively read contemporary fiction. It’s only a couple of years ago that my genre tastes turned eclectic. It was when I discovered the online book community (review sites, book blogs & booktube) that I found myself becoming anchored more in fantasy\y. Since then my bookshelves have come to house a vast selection of fantasy books as well.
