THE HONEY FARM ON THE HILL by Jo Thomas

November 23, 2017

Book cover & rating - The Honey Farm on the Hill by Jo ThomasAs much as I enjoy summer reads, predictability tends to be one strike against them. The Honey Farm on the Hill was no exception. I saw nearly every twist coming chapters ahead of them — from Nell’s discoveries about her long lost love to the mystery of disappearing bees to the resolution. Not much about the plot surprised me. Yet, I quite liked this book for the setting, the characters and the relationships.

Hot off the Press – November 20, 2017

November 20, 2017

Hot off the Press — Stay up to date with weekly YA releases | wordrevel.comFour new YA releases and a handful of reissued paperbacks. I don’t know much about the new books hot off the press this week. Although, I did see on Goodreads that Miguel and Joey reviewed The Temptation of Adam by Dave Connie favourably. Maybe their thoughts will help you decide if you want to pick it up too.

Bookstagram 101: Burn Candles, Not Books — Why Burning Books for Likes Isn’t Cool

Bookstagram 101: Burn Candles, Not Books — Why burning books of likes isn't coolEvery time I come across a photo on Instagram with books on fire, a part of my soul dies. To be clear, it’s not the same as when I cringe at dogeared pages, cry at tea spilled on a book or broken spines. It goes beyond that. Burning books isn’t simply about what one does with their personal belongings — it’s about the symbolism behind it, the historical and cultural implications, and so much more.

BECAUSE YOU LOVE TO HATE ME edited by Ameriie

November 17, 2017

Book cover & rating - BECAUSE YOU LOVE TO HATE ME edited by Ameriie
When I first heard of this anthology, Because You Love to Hate Me, I was extremely excited. The idea sounded so enticing and I couldn’t wait to see how the various authors would approach their prompts. With so many great people working on this, I couldn’t wait to be wowed. Needless to say, this belonged to my most anticipated reads of 2017. Sadly, I walked away with mixed feelings.

October 2017 Overview

November 15, 2017

October 2017 Overview and Personal Reading StatisticsThere wasn’t a lot of downtime in October for me, so I didn’t get as much time to read as much as I had hoped. Somehow I still managed to finish 12 books, though mostly thanks to audiobooks. In fact, I listened to eight audiobooks. I also read three paperbacks and an ebook.
