THE POET X by Elizabeth Acevedo

March 16, 2018

Book cover & rating - The Poet X by Elizabeth AcevedoUsually, when I find out a book is a novel in verse, I will skip it. The Poet X, however, sounded so relatable, that I stepped out of my reading comfort zone. Let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it!

ASSASSIN’S HEART by Sarah Ahiers

February 10, 2016

Book cover & rating - Assassin's Heart by Sara AhiersAssassin’s Heart wasn’t a book that I had prioritised to read. The reason I got to it so soon after publication was that I had the maximum 6 credits on my Audible account. In order not to forfeit any credits, I had to spend one before the new cycle. Since Assassin’s Heart was the only book available as an audiobook from my TBR (to be read) pile among the titles I didn’t own, I went for it. Essentially, I went in without any set expectations.

THE CHRISTMAS MYSTERY by Jostein Gaarder

December 24, 2015

Book cover & rating - The Christmas Mystery by Jostein GaarderIt’s Christmas Eve and so the Advent season is practically over. The same goes for The Christmas Mystery. While I’ve owned it for about ten years (probably more), I’ve never actually read it. This year I finally picked it up and used it as an Advent calendar. I must say, I’m glad I did. While I forgot my chocolates half-way through last year, there’s no way I could forget a book.

A THOUSAND NIGHTS by E.K. Johnston

November 25, 2015

A THOUSAND NIGHTS by E.K. JohnstonA Thousand Nights is a magical book. The prose is exceedingly beautiful. If literary fiction were to bridge over to the young adult segment, this book would be a stellar example of the genre. In some ways, I think that if readers were to expect a slow story, magnificent in words over a fast-paced one, then the reviews wouldn’t have come to be as mixed as they are now.

THIS SIDE OF SALVATION by Jeri Smith-Ready

September 25, 2014

THIS SIDE OF SALVATION by Jeri Smith-ReadyThis Side of Salvation had a lot going for it. Sports, school, religion and romance — all things that are important to a sixteen-year-old. David had a bright future ahead of him in baseball. He trained just as hard for it off-season as he did during his seasons. College scouts were on the look-out for him and his high school coach had taught David all he could.

· Categories: Fiction Keywords: american authors, baseball, beliefs, christianity, cults, death, depression, family, family problems, friendship, grief, high school, homeschooling, lgbtq characters, siblinghood
